Why pregnant women are very sensitive to the smell

As with some other changes that occur during pregnancy, pregnant women experience usually also of changes in the sense of smell becomes more sensitive. This condition is caused by the increase in estrogen hormone levels in their bodies.

According to Howstuffworks, a study of 2002 led by Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia suggested that women with high levels of estrogen hormones has greater sensitivity. This condition may also occur in women during the fertile period.

Researchers have said that more sensitivity to the smell and flavour are experienced by pregnant women and this may trigger a morning, and they have become more selective in the choice.

Yet across the researchers thought it would be beneficial because it would protect pregnant women from foods containing chemicals and toxins that are harmful to the fetus.

This condition usually occurs in early pregnancy when the body has yet to adapt to the changes that occur during pregnancy, particularly the fluctuation of hormones in the body. But no all pregnant women have a sensitivity to certain smells.

A study showed a smell of food or beverages such as coffee, meat, dairy products and some sharp spicy foods generally does are not favored by the pregnant women in early pregnancy.

To overcome them, pregnant you should try to avoid the odour which may aggravate the condition, they can ask their partners not to use scents that they do not like, and they must avoid the smell of certain foods.

They can also overcome them by opening the Windows to provide good ventilation to permit exchange of air or smell soothing aroma of Mint, lemon or other flavors they love.
